How do you estimate the urban expansion from the past when technology is not yet present in that area?

Looking back is like a lens of history of how all civilization started and how will it grow in the future.
Technology before 1980 is not that advanced compared to today. Most Maps are made by hand; some are printed and requires a lot of manpower to create a map, specifically urban structure
Remote sensing. That's right, it's a modern tool to remotely check the map data using satellites from history. We are currently lucky that most of the data from before is now accessible and easy to use.
It's fast and simple; using the light spectrum of that satellite, you can classify objects. It's not totally 100%, but it gets the job done. You can check the data backward to see what the objects are and how they change. It's a revolutionary tool that evaluates the history of before and assesses how it can be seen today and in the future.
Technology moves fast, and AI is coming to remote sensing. It will be seen fast to classify the location using different tools. The tool will be GeoAI, and it is now starting to emerge from different scientists.
I'm excited about how this GeoAI will come to the market in a couple of years, and I will be ready to use those technologies.
